The Abortion Pill Process

The abortion pill consists of two drugs and is FDA-approved through ten weeks of gestation.

The first drug, mifepristone, blocks the hormone progesterone and causes changes to the uterine lining. The second drug, misoprostol, is taken 24 to 48 hours later and expels the pregnancy through cramping and bleeding.
