If being pregnant is not part of your current plans, it is understandable you don’t feel ready to become a parent. You have three options for your unplanned pregnancy: get an abortion, make an adoption plan, or choose to parent.
We’d love to hear from you if you want to talk with us in person. Please feel free to make a free and confidential appointment.
Are You Considering Abortion?
Abortion is the only option that ends your pregnancy. Having an abortion is a serious medical decision and, like all medical procedures, has the potential for physical and emotional risks.
How far along you are in your pregnancy determines the procedure you qualify for. The FDA approves the use of abortion drugs through 10 weeks of pregnancy only. If you no longer qualify for the abortion pill method, you can have a surgical procedure.
Side effects from abortion drugs include bleeding, cramping (these first two side effects always occur), upset stomach, vomiting, fever, and diarrhea. Risks include the body not releasing all pregnancy tissue (known as an incomplete abortion), heavy and prolonged bleeding, and infection.
Psychological risks also need to be considered because some women suffer from anxiety and depression following their abortions. You need to discuss this option thoroughly beforehand.
What Do You Think About Adoption?
Making an adoption plan for your child is a difficult decision, but if you do not feel ready to become a parent, it may be the perfect solution. Adoption allows you to have a relationship with your child and their adoptive family without the day-to-day responsibilities of parenting.
Today’s adoption process is very different from a few decades ago. Now, the expectant mother or birth mother makes all the decisions. She chooses the potential adoptive couple and the future she wants her child to have.
Adoption services are free, and all medical and legal expenses are covered. In certain instances, other pregnancy-related expenses, like rent, utilities, and food, may also be covered. It is vital to choose a reputable, licensed adoption coordinator who puts your needs first.
Ensure the coordinator you select provides thorough adoption counseling before, during, and after finalization. You want to be confident this is the right decision for you.
