What If She Does Not Have Insurance?
Health plans generally cover the policyholder and people with a legally or plan-recognized relationship to them, such as a spouse, child, or qualifying domestic partner. A girlfriend is not automatically covered under her partner’s policy, and eligibility requirements vary by plan. Questions about who can be added should be directed to the insurance provider.
Access to medical care matters during pregnancy, particularly if she experiences symptoms that could indicate a miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, or another urgent health concern.
If she does not have insurance, she may qualify for Minnesota Medical Assistance, which covers pregnancy-related doctor visits, hospital services, and OB/GYN care. Eligibility depends on income and other program requirements.

Get the Facts Before Making a Decision
Before making any pregnancy decision, understanding how abortion works and the risks involved is important. The abortion pill is only approved through ten weeks of gestation.
A limited ultrasound can provide information about how far along the pregnancy is, where the pregnancy is located, and whether the pregnancy appears viable.
An ectopic pregnancy can sometimes go undiagnosed and requires urgent medical attention because it can become life-threatening. This is where the pregnancy implants outside of the uterus, most commonly in the fallopian tube. It cannot be treated with the abortion pill.
